Kansas City, MO

About the 2018 Spring CAEPCon

Twice a year, the educator preparation profession gathers at the CAEP Conference (CAEPCon). CAEPCon provides opportunities to interact directly with the CAEP team and learn about the CAEP Standards and the Accreditation Process.

Sessions focus on important topics such as quality assessments, data literacy, diverse clinical practices, demonstrating program impact, developing a quality assurance system, and more.

The CAEPCon gives educator preparation providers (EPPs) the chance to share innovative ideas, continuous improvement experiences, transformational practice, and evidence-supported successes with other EPPs. Educator Preparation Providers will have an opportunity to network and share best practices, while gaining new ideas.

CAEPCon Features

Whether this is your first time or you are a CAEPCon veteran, there is always something new to learn! From beginning to end, you will enjoy learning and networking opportunities. Beyond session programming, you will not want to miss these conference features:

PreCon Orientation Sessions:

These free, optional early sessions will help you navigate the conference and get the most out of programming and networking opportunities.  Plan to arrive by the afternoon of March 13 to join the orientation and settle in. These PreCon orientation sessions aim to guide attendees toward conference content best suited for their journey through the accreditation process. These PreCon sessions will help EPPs :

        • Figure out which CAEPCon track to follow
        • Determine what key points will be covered within the CAEP Standards sessions
        • Learn about key CAEP resources, such as: scope of accreditation, accreditation reports and requirements, assessment evaluation frameworks, evidence sufficiency criteria, etc.
        • Build a deeper understanding of  the accreditation process, such as: report timelines, the AIMS platform, tools for writing, etc.

Three PreCon orientations will be offered, based on your level of familiarity with the CAEP Accreditation Process.

Starter (Newbie) Level PreCon| Tuesday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m.
This PreCon Session is perfect for anyone with little or no knowledge of the overall accreditation process. The session will give participants guidance about what to anticipate on the 'Starter Track,' such as basic understanding of the concepts behind each standard and associated components - plus strategies to start working to meet the CAEP Standards

Intermediate/Experienced Levels PreCon | Tuesday, March 13 at 3:30 p.m. (Repeated at 5:00 p.m.)
This PreCon session is suited for anyone, with some prior knowledge, looking to deepen their understanding of the CAEP Accreditation Process. This orientation will outline what to anticipate on the 'Intermediate/Experienced Track,' such as focusing in on evidence sufficiency criteria to demonstrate strong evidence toward meeting the standards and components.

Resource Center: Want to know more about the accreditation process? The Resource Center will feature concise information about the various steps in the accreditation process in a poster-style format. The Resource Center will be open, with CAEP staff present, for the full duration of CAEPCon – come by any time!

PostCon Workshops: Two concurrent workshops will be offered this spring, so choose the one that best fits the needs of your provider:

      • a deeper dive into writing the self-study report, or
      • discussing the suite of measures (accreditation, accountability, and assessments)

Embedded Networking Opportunities: Robust networking opportunities, with dedicated space and topics for attendees to meet and learn from each other, will be available. CAEP will facilitate networking through online platforms prior to the conference so that attendees may participate in open discussions and connect with other attendees prior to arriving and during the conference.

Join hundreds of other professionals committed to teacher quality this spring and take advantage of an ideal setting to meet and interact with:·

  • Chief executive and academic officers (e.g., presidents, chancellors, provosts or vice presidents)
  • Heads of the professional education provider (e.g., deans, directors, or chairs)
  • Directors of clinical/laboratory/internship experiences or field experiences
  • CAEP/accreditation coordinators at the institutions

PostCon Workshops

PostCon workshops offer a broad focus on essential topics. These workshops are held after the main conference programming concludes. Attending a workshop is an excellent opportunity to apply what you've learned at CAEPCon to your provider's unique circumstances, so come ready to work!

Two workshops will be offered at the 2018 Spring CAEP Conference:

Self-Study Report: A How-To Workshop
This workshop is geared toward educator preparation providers (EPPs) preparing to write self-study reports (SSR). Participants will be given the opportunity to walk through the process, learn the expectations for content, and the formatting for the SSR. The workshop will focus on areas where past SSR authors have needed the most assistance. An EPP with an SSR in progress is encouraged to bring materials to use during workshop exercises. While the workshop is geared toward EPPs preparing to write the SSR, we hope that everyone will find information applicable to their role. Get ready to write!

A3: Accreditation, Accountability, and Assessment Workshop
This workshop will provide information and methods to help educator preparation providers (EPPs) understand the expectations for addressing validity and reliability of EPP-created assessments. The workshop will focus on areas where past EPPs have needed the most assistance. Participants will gain a better understanding of: the kinds of validity and reliability during the accreditation process, how to address evidence criteria, and describe the key steps for meeting the levels of sufficiency. An EPP with a self-study report and/or self-study evidence in progress is encouraged to bring materials to use during workshop exercises.

Both PostCon workshops will be presented in two sequential parts. Please plan your travel and lodging accordingly

  • Part 1 is Thursday, March 15 during the afternoon
  • Part 2 is Friday, March 16 during the morning

Only one workshop can be attended per participant, as workshops run concurrently. Please only register for one workshop per attendee. Please note seating is limited, so be sure to register early!
